Padmanath Bhattacharya Vidya Vinod (1868-1938) was noted twentieth-century historian. His works generally centered on ancient region of Kamarupa.

Biography

Vidya Vinod was born in Sylhet, which is now in Bangladesh.

Work

His notable works are Kamarupa Sasanavali, Ramakrishna-Vivekananda Prasanga, Mr. Gait's History of Assam: A Critical Study, papers in Epigraphia Indica vol. XII He regularly involved in discovery and deciphering of Kamarupa inscriptions.

Vidya Vinod was leading Sanskrit scholar of Assam, professor in Cotton College and was one of the founding members of Kamarupa Anusandhan Samiti. He was critical and dissatisfied with Gait's perception of historical events and processes of Assam, and his interpretations, constructed meaning and political undertone of his works.
