Porse

PORSE is a provider of in-home childcare services, education and tertiary training in New Zealand. The first PORSE programme was created by founding director Jenny Yule and Leslie Gaston in 1993.

Contents

The PORSE programme is based on child attachment theory research and PORSE believe that young children should spend at least the first three years of their lives nurtured respectively in a home environment. PORSE matches in-home educators and nannies with families looking for childcare services and has 45 Community teams around New Zealand. Educators and Nannies educate the children in their care using PORSE’s programme as well as being assisted by locally organized activities that promote the sharing of information, knowledge and resources. PORSE’s offers the NZQA certified National Certificate in Early Childhood Education and Care (Level3).

Origins

The first PORSE programme was developed in 1993 and it gained a charter with the New Zealand Ministry of Education in 1995. This programme was delivered through the ‘Bay Nanny Childcare Network’.

In 1996 a new company was formed as part of a joint venture with the Auckland University of Technology. In 1997 this company secured a Ministry of Education contract to deliver the Early Childhood Curriculum, Te Whàriki, for Nannies.

Growth and expansion

In 1999 PORSE began to sell itself as a Franchise System. This replaced the original model of joint ventures with nanny agencies. At this point the new network was renamed PORSE. The training arm of PORSE was also registered in 1999 and named PORSE ECE Training (NZ) Ltd.

Partnerships & Affiliations

PORSE is a founding member of The Home Education Learning Organisation (HELO) which represents and advocates for home-based early childhood education in the teacher-led sector. In 2013 PORSE enlisted former New Zealand netball representative Anna Harrison as a spokes model.
