PEGASYS is a non-profit Public, educational, and government access (PEG) cable TV station located in Enid, Oklahoma.

History

PEGASYS premiered as a community bulletin board in September 1986 on Channel 33. The first day of regular broadcast programming aired on Channel 33 on May 18, 1987. In 1991, Channel 34 premiered with educational television program. In June 1993, programming was moved Channels 11 and 12. In January 1997, Channel 19 was added as the community bulletin board.

Programming

PEGASYS began telecasting of the Enid City Council and the Enid Board of Education meetings in early 1988. Regular staples in PEGASYS programming include Community Talk, Math Mania, and the Mysterious Lab of Doctor Fear. Since 1997 Channel 12 has featured Classic Arts Showcase and Channel 19's community bulletin board has carried an audio feed from National Public Radio via KOSU.

Location

The station was originally housed in Enid City Hall. In 1987, PEGASYS moved to its current location in the Cherokee Strip Conference Center. In 1990, the station expanded its facilities by adding three editing rooms, and in 1996, by constructing a second studio.

Operations

In addition to a small paid staff, volunteers assist in training, administrative functions, serve on the Board of Directors and committees, produce original programming, and crew for studio and field productions. PEGASYS honors its volunteers and producers in its annual Videofest Awards Ceremony.
