Geography

Ovindoli lies in the Apennine Mountains of Abruzzo, within the regional park of Sirente-Velino.

History

Ovindoli became known as a downhill skiing destination following the First World War, but it was not until 1959 that the mountain organized as a modern ski resort; at the time, it was called Valturvema. During the 1961–62 season, ski lifts began to operate and the trails were expanded. Charles Rogers, an American working at that time in the US Embassy in Rome served as President of the Society that worked to develop the area as a ski resort and oversaw the expansion activities. In 1994, the ski resort changed management and was named Monte Magnola and modernized with new trails, ski lifts and snow making capabilities.

Ski Monte Magnola

The ski resort of "Ovindoli-Monte Magnola", located 2 km above the village of the country from an altitude of 1450 m up to 2220 m of Mount Magnola, Ovindoli makes it known to the Romans who see it as a major attraction for winter sports together with the nearby Campo Felice [14]. These stations together with Campo Imperatore form the ski area of the Three Snows, with only seasonal and multi-day ski pass. It is in the process of designing a project that provides for the connection of the ski lifts with those of Ovindoli Campo Felice.

The station has about 30 km for beginners and advanced ski slopes, wide and of varying difficulty suited to the practice of Alpine winter sports: skiing, telemark and snowboarding. Many of the slopes are served by modern lifts (including cable cars) and advanced technologies for artificial snow.

A valley at 1,500 m there are beginner slopes equipped with treadmills and three-seater chairlift, while the plants at high altitude (three three-seat lifts) are reachable by a modern cable car or gondola to eight seats with automatic coupling with a maximum capacity of 3,000 people per 'Now.

At altitude of 1,900 m is one of the Fund Stadium, a ring of about 5 km to the practice of cross-country skiing, and Alienpark, an equipped snow park for freestyle on snow-halfpipe, slopestyle, jibbing (snowboard boots) and treadmills for ascent.

accommodation in height are the Refuge Amphitheatre-restaurant, spa-Refreshment Rooms Capanna Brin and Baita Belvedere, even in summer reached by the cable car "Le Fosse" Plateau with views of the Fortresses from the peaks of the Magnola. On the south ridge of Mount Magnola is also Rifugio Telespazio. Complete the winter tourist offer the presence of several ski schools and ski clubs. Impressive hotel accommodation are placed instead at the station slopes.
