Ophiusa discriminans

Ophiusa discriminans is a moth of the Noctuidae family. It is found in Brunei, New Caledonia, New Guinea, Sri Lanka, Thailand and in Australia in the Northern Territory and Queensland.

Description

The wingspan is about 60-65mm. Head and thorax reddish orange with grey palpi. Sides of head chestnut colored. Abdomen orange with a black dorsal patch near extremity. Fore wings greenish orange with reddish outer third, slightly irrorated with black. A faint outwardly oblique, sinuous antemedial line and inwardly oblique crenulate postmedial line present. Orbicular is a dark speck and reniform is greyish with dark edge. Two grey and black sub-apical spots and a series of grey sub-marginal specks found with a large grey patch at outer angle. Cilia greyish. Hind wings orange, with broad sub-marginal fuscous black band.

The larvae feed on Melaleuca species.
