Album overview

The album was recorded at Mediasound, Sound Palace and SoundMixers Studios, New York, in 1979. Original tape mastering took place at CBS Recording Studios, New York. It was released in late 1979 on Tappan Zee (Bob James' own record label), promoted and distributed by Columbia in the US and CBS in the UK. Grammy Award Winner: 1980.

"Jazz Jam" was a throw-away track that was originally a piece of music put together by Bob James for the studio engineers to balance their recording desk levels accordingly. "Jazz Jam" remained unreleased until Bob James found the recording in the vaults during a project to re-release the album to the Japanese market. Subsequently, "Jazz Jam" was remastered for the 30th anniversary release of the original album in 2009 in the US and Europe including the UK.

The interview contained as a bonus track on the 30th anniversary edition of the album was recorded in 2009. Bob and Earl together recall fond memories of the writing and recording process whilst also recalling the special relationship they both had with the chosen supporting musicians.
