Oliver Fiechter (born April 30, 1972) is a Swiss economic philosopher, entrepreneur, and author. He is best known as the author of We Are The Economy! (2012) and Rise of the Digital Tribal Society (2016) where he forecasts a future global economic and social order, called the ‘Economy 3.0’, defined by a transparent digital Barter society. Fiechter’s beliefs are influenced by the field of thought known as Constructivism, particularly Heinz von Foerster's work on Self-organization systems. Fiechter is also the founder of the ISG Institute in St. Gallen and CEO of The RPRT Group.

Early life

Oliver Fiechter was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina on April 30, 1972. In the late 1970s Fiechter and his family relocated to Switzerland. From 16 years of age, he worked as a music and cultural journalist for several Swiss and German newspapers and magazines including Tages-Anzeiger, FACTS, SonntagsZeitung, and Fokus.

Career

In 2005, Fiechter developed a DIMP-approach (Dialog, Information, Motivation, Profiling) for measuring and controlling soft factors in the communication process that aimed to improve a sustainable use of marketing and communication resources. In 2008, he founded the ISG Institute in St. Gallen, Switzerland. The institution has since involved collaborations with prominent economists including Cuno Pümpin, and has developed novel business methodologies, underpinned by Fiechter’s ‘Stakeholder Value Management’ approach (which enables companies to measure and report in real time how soft factors impact financial performance), used by international companies including PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and Ernst & Young (EY).

In the Stakeholder Value Management methodology, the purpose of a company or organization is to produce value for every stakeholder involved (customers, employees, shareholders, suppliers, local communities, and society at large) in contrast to the Shareholder Value approach where profits benefit only a few stakeholders. Fiechter’s Economy 3.0 is based on the Stakeholder Value Management approach and sees new information technologies, digitization, (and a basic income for all), as the path to equality and economic fairness.

In 2014, the Austrian Chamber of Commerce (WKO), in collaboration with the ISG Institute, established the annual Hidden Champion Award / Hidden Champions 3.0, awarded to companies that significantly drive the Austrian export economy. In 2015, Fiechter founded RPRT Group together with Wolfgang Schmid (CFO). The Swiss-based firm consolidates creative companies and implements Fiechter’s ‘Economy 3.0’ economic approach to business. To date, the RPRT Group has acquired companies including Jed Root and Marek & Associates, post-production company Dtouch. He is also a foundation board member of the Carlo Foundation, and a member of the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI).
