Oleksandr Gvozdyk (Ukrainian: Олександр Гвоздик; born 15 April 1987) is a Ukrainian professional boxer who has held the regional NABF light heavyweight title since 2016. As an amateur he won a bronze medal at the 2012 Olympics in the light heavyweight division.

Career

At the 2009 World Amateur Boxing Championships he beat two opponents before being edged out by Rene Krause.

At the 2011 World Amateur Boxing Championships he beat three fighters before falling to star Egor Mekhontsev of Russia. He qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics.

At the 2012 Summer Olympics he won against Belarusian Mikhail Dauhaliavets 18–10, Nicaraguan Osmar Bravo 18–6, Algerian Abdelhafid Benchabla 19–17 and lost to Kazakh Adilbek Niyazymbetov countback. He won the bronze medal.
Professional career

After his amateur success, Gvozdyk turned professional and won his debut, defeating Mike Montoya via a first-round KO on the undercard of Manny Pacquiao vs. Timothy Bradley II.
Gvozdyk vs. Mohammedi

After winning his first nine professional bouts, Gvozdyk would challenge for his first professional title on April 9, 2016, the NABF light-heavyweight title against Nadjib Mohammedi, who just been defeated by WBA (Undisputed), IBF and WBO world champion Sergey Kovalev. Gvozdyk dropped Mohammedi in the second round with a right hook and Mohammedi failed to beat the count, giving Gvozdyk his tenth straight win and his first professional title.
Gvozdyk vs. Karpency and Chilemba
Gvozdyk made his title defence against three time world-title challenger Tommy Karpency on July 23, 2016. After Karpency dropped Gvozdyk in the first round, Gvozdyk rallied and knocked Karpency out in the sixth round with a hook to the body. Gvozdyk then faced off against Isaac Chilemba on the November 19, 2016 undercard of Sergey Kovalev vs. Andre Ward. Chilemba. like Mohammedi, had just been coming off a defeat to unified light-heavyweight champion Kovalev. Gvozdyk started strong after Chilemba suffered an injury to his right hand. Chilemba started to increase the pace, but decided to retire at the end of the eight round due to his hand injury, giving Gvozdyk his twelfth straight win and second title defense and Chilemba his first knockout loss.
