Ogasawara Nagakiyo (小笠原 長清, 5 March 1162–15 July 1242) was a Japanese warrior of the Heian period. He is best known as the founder of Ogasawara clan. The history of kyudo begins with this martial arts master.

Early life

Nagakiyo was born within the prefecture of Yamanashi. Nagakiyo was a retainer of the Minamoto clan.
Martial arts master

He became a martial arts tutor of Minamoto no Yoritomo.
During the Kamakura period, Nagakiyo's skills and training methods were passed on to his son, Ogasawara Nagatsune. His archery school was known as Ogasawara-ryū.
