Obioma Nnaemeka (born 28 October 1948 in Agulu, Nigeria) is a Nigerian academic. She earned her B.A from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. While at UNN, Dr. Nnaemeka studied African Studies, French and German. In 1989, Dr. Nnaemeka attained her PhD in French and Francophone studies from University of Minnesota. Dr. Nnaemeka is currently the Chancellor’s Professor of French, Women’s Studies and Africana Studies at Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis.

Academic Interests

Dr. Nnaemeka's academic interests are expansive. She is interested in black women writers, feminist theory, transitional feminism, Francophone literatures, oral as well as written works of African and the African Diaspora, gender and human rights. Prior to arriving at Indiana University, Dr. Nnaemeka taught at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Dr. Nnaemeka also taught at the College of Wooster, Wooster Ohio. Dr. Nnaemeka, is a cultural critic for the French Service of the International Service of Ration Netherlands in Helversum. Dr. Nnaemeka, is a Board member for the Global Women’s Leadership Center at the Leavey School of Business.

Service

While at the University of Minnesota in pursuit of her PhD, Dr. Nnaemeka was the President of the Nigerian Students Association. She was also actions in the International Student Council. Dr. Nnaemeka is the founder and president of the Association of African Women Scholars. Dr. Nnameka, is the President and CEO of the Jessie Obidiegwu Education Fund; which is an NGO dedicated to the education of women and girls in Africa. Combining her research interests and teaching Dr. Nnaemeka has consulted with the United Nations, World Bank, international agencies and academic institutions.
