The Northwest Federal Credit Union Foundation (NWFCU Foundation), is the charitable arm of Northwest Federal Credit Union (NWFCU), established in 1947 as a financial institution for employees of the Central Intelligence Agency. The NWFCU Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charity.

Scholarship Programs

Founded in 2005, and headquartered in Herndon, Virginia, as of January 2016 the Northwest Federal Credit Union Foundation claims to have awarded $877,000.

With a membership of current and former CIA Officers, CIRA and the NWFCU Foundation created a scholarship program for the children and grandchildren of CIA employees.

NWFCU Foundation scholarships, include the Ben DeFelice Scholarship, named after a former NWFCU’ Chairman of the Board who served for over 30 years.

According to its website (see link below) NWFCU Foundation now awards at least five need based scholarships.

Other contributions

The NWFCU Foundation donated $10,000 to Hurricane Katrina victims via the National Credit Union Foundation Disaster Relief Fund, NWFCU also extended financial loan assistance to members residing in disaster areas.

The NWFCU Foundation contributed $2,500 to the Virginia Tech Memorial Fund through Freedom First Federal Credit Union to "honor of the Virginia Tech victims and to cover expenses, including but not limited to, grief counseling; memorials; communication; comfort assistance; and incidental needs."

In response to Typhoon Haiyan deadly impact in the Philippines, the NWFCU Foundation donated more than $10,000 to aid victims via Doctors Without Borders.

The NWFCU Foundation provides continuing support to breast cancer awareness programs, the Children's Miracle Network and local schools.
