History

North Main BBQ was opened to the public in 1981 by Hubert Green, Dollie Green, Ray Green and Eddie Kelsey. North Main BBQ started its life as a truck repair shop that sold a little BBQ on the side. It quickly grew through word of mouth.

North Main's primary cuisine is beef (brisket) (chopped or sliced), sausage, pork shoulder, and pork ribs, and chicken. Merchandise is available from the restaurant itself or via their website, and includes the restaurant's trademark sauces and dry rub. All food is either served all-you-can-eat, or on a sandwich plate.

All you can eat is currently $15 while a sandwich is $5, with sides $1 each. Tea is included.

Facilities

North Main BBQ has a main room, where the BBQ is served buffet style, with additional rooms being opened in the building as needed for overflow. A typical Friday can include lines that snake around the interior of the building. The seating is picnic table style.

The restaurant maintains BYOB policy, and convenience stores relatively nearby sell beer.

Awards and television appearance

North Main BBQ has won many awards, but the pinnacle has been "Best Ribs in the World" at the World Invitational Rib Championship in Richmond, Virginia, which was awarded twice to North Main.

North Main BBQ was featured on a season 1 episode of the Food Network's show The Best Thing I Ever Ate for their brisket.
