Academic Results and OFSTED

North Bromsgrove High School is one of the highest performing schools in the county across the past three years. 2015 results showed students made better than expected progress given their starting points on entry to the school. Overall 64% of students attained 5 A*-C including English and maths, with English and maths A*-C and three levels of progress above national averages.

In the most recent OFSTED inspection, (December 2014) the school was awarded a Grade 2 (good). Published in the report the inspectors noted that within the school "the quality of teaching is good and improving strongly" and that "the curriculum is broad and balanced offering a range of academic and skills based subjects...including in the sixth form".

Facilities and Key Information

Close to the town centre, the recently built campus includes five acres of playing fields, a sports hall with dance studios, an Apple Mac suite, two drama studios, a radio station, and well-equipped science laboratories. The school also has a specialist autism base and brand new sixth form accommodation for September 2015. North Bromsgrove prides itself on strong extra-curricular activity including the Duke of Edinburgh Award, performing arts and sporting excellence. It also provides an opportunity for students to participate in the Combined Cadets Force.

The new school was opened officially by ex-pupil Mark Williams (actor). He established an award in the name of former teacher Alan Holden and this is presented annually to the student who has shown the most dedication and commitment to the performing arts.

The school operates a college system where students are divided based on their curriculum interests and future career aspirations. These are Blake College (culture), Darwin College (environment), Thorne College (health) and Smith College (business). Students participate in a range of inter and intra-college events across the year.

Catchment

The school's main feeder schools are Parkside Middle School and Catshill Middle School. Students also come from Alvechurch Middle School, Aston Fields Middle School and St John's Middle School as well as other middle schools in the surrounding areas of Redditch and Droitwich.

A large proportion of students stay on into the school's successful sixth form and applications are accepted from students attending other schools as well. Across the past two years, 100% of students who applied were successful in getting into the university of their choice.
