Schooldigger.com ranked the school as 134th out of 389 public high schools statewide in its 2012 rankings (an increase of 118 positions from the previous ranking) which were based on the combined percentage of students classified as proficient or above proficient on the language arts literacy (83.5%) and mathematics (99.3%) components of the High School Proficiency Assessment (HSPA).
Athletics
The North 13th Street Tech Cougars compete in the Super Essex Conference, under the jurisdiction of the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA). With 538 students in grades 10-12, the school was classified by the NJSIAA for the 2014–15 school year as North II, Group II for most athletic competition purposes, which included schools with an enrollment of 508 to 770 students in that grade range.
