Nordfyn is a municipality (Danish, kommune) in Region of Southern Denmark in Denmark. It covers an area of 451 km2 (174 sq mi) and a total population of 29,651 (2009).

On 1 January 2007 Nordfyn municipality was created as the result of Kommunalreformen ("The Municipal Reform" of 2007), consisting of the former municipalities of Bogense, Otterup and Søndersø.

It was originally planned that the new entity should have continued the existing name of Bogense municipality but a local referendum preferred the name Nordfyn and this decision was approved by the Danish Interior Minister, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, in June 2006.

Politics

Like all Danish municipalities, Nordfyn elect a municipal council every 4 years. The council in turn appoint the mayor every 4 year. This system has caused some trouble, as a so-called "rævekage" occurred in 2009. Venstre and the Social Democrats had agreed upon a Social Democratic mayoral candidate, and expected to have him chosen. However, a group of municipal Councillors from Venstre decided to break the agreement, and have Morten Andersen from Venstre chosen as mayor. Mayors on the municipality are:

The current municipal council was elected in 2013 and convened on 1 January 2014. It has 25 members, with Venstre having 11 seats, the Social Democrats 7, the DPP having 2, and others having 1 each. Its members, ranked by number of personal votes, are:
