Career
Born in Melli, Sikkim, Tamang started his career at the Namchi Sports Hostel in Sikkim before joining the Air Force Academy in 2009. After playing with the India national under-16 set-up, he joined Shillong Lajong at the youth level.
After a successful season in the Shillong Premier League, Tamang was called up to the Shillong Lajong first-team for the Federation Cup. He made his professional debut on the first match-day against Pune on 29 December 2014. He started the match as Shillong Lajong fell 1–3.
International
Tamang has represented India at under-19 level in two friendlies against the China as part of the preparatory tour for the 2014 AFC U-19 Championship qualification. He was part of the squad that played in the 2014 AFC U-19 Championship but did not make any appearances.
