Nicolae Lupescu (17 December 1940 – 6 September 2017) was a Romanian football defender and manager.

Club career

Lupescu was born in Bucharest and debuted in Divizia A with Rapid Bucureşti in 1962. He remained with Rapid for ten seasons, winning the league title in 1967 and the cup title in 1972. He played five seasons in Austria before retiring.

International career

Lupescu earned 21 caps and scored 2 goals for the Romanian national team. He represented his country at the 1970 FIFA World Cup and for the participation in that tournament he was decorated by President of Romania Traian Băsescu on 25 March 2008 with the Ordinul „Meritul Sportiv” — (The Medal "The Sportive Merit") class III..

Personal life

He was the father of professional football player Ioan Lupescu.
