Newburgh Theological Seminary is a non-denominational Christian seminary, which specializes in correspondence and independent study education. The Seminary offers undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degrees in academic fields such as Ministry, Theology, Biblical Studies, Biblical Preaching, Christian Education, Christian Counseling, Christian Sales and Marketing, Apologetics, and Church Administration. While Newburgh Theological Seminary is selective in its admission process, it has students from all over the world enrolled in its degree programs.

Regarding accreditation, Newburgh Theological Seminary has rejected government accreditation, because of a belief it may "weaken [their] ability to train men and women to be effective servants of Christ." Although the Seminary is not accredited by any government recognized accrediting agency, it is legally authorized by the State of Indiana and its Commission of Higher Education to grant educational degrees and certifications. In the United States, educational accreditation is an optional and voluntary processes of evaluation in which the quality of a school or educational institute is assessed.

In regard to academics, Newburgh Theological Seminary has a rigorous curriculum for each academic program. With the help of an academic adviser, students choose a combination of subjects, consisting of required and elective courses, for their selected major. While the specific requirements for each academic program may vary, course work mainly consists of writing essays and synopses. Newburgh Theological Seminary has what some may consider to be an unconventional approach to education; requiring students to submit written assignments for all their courses. However, the Seminary believes that writing is one of the best ways to demonstrate learning and academic comprehension. In addition, Newburgh Theological Seminary strives to instill a good work ethic in students, and equip them to be effective, by using practical ministerial training. The institution strives to stay non-denominational by preaching and teaching Christian doctrine and theology, supported by and taken from Biblical content, and not endorsing dogmatism or denominational catechisms.

The majority of the faculty at Newburgh Seminary have been schooled at Baptist and Anglican seminaries or universities, and hold true to their respective denominational persuasion. At the same time, each remains committed to not compromising the established nondenominational standards and academics of the Seminary.
