Company
NewLaw Solicitors was established in 2004 by Chief Executive Helen Molyneux. The company has offices in Cardiff, Bristol and an associated office in Glasgow and works with individuals and businesses across the UK.
Employing over 400 people, NewLaw specialises in all types of personal injury law, from whiplash claims to catastrophic injury cases, including brain, spine and amputation injuries.
With talks of the Referral Fee Ban that came into force in 2013, Helen Molyneux founder of NewLaw Solicitors set up the firm to become one of UK’s leading and fastest growing personal injury law firms that offered an Alternative Business Structure, which was the first Welsh practice to be licensed as an ABS.
The company was set up to react to the changing legal sector and in April 2012, and became the first Legal Disciplinary Partnership in the UK to be licensed as an Alternative Business Structure (ABS) by the Solicitors Regulation Authority.
NewLaw appeared on the FastGrowth 50 List in 2010 and its Chief Executive Helen Molyneux won Legal Business Woman of the Year in 2013.
NewLaw supports the Right to Know: Asbestos in Schools Wales campaign which calls for the set-up of a national online schools asbestos register. The database holds information on all school buildings in Wales that contain asbestos and whether adequate management plans are in place.
Charity support
In 2012 NewLaw’s chosen charity was Tenovus. The firm raised £30,000 for cancer services through a sponsored walkathon, black tie ball and staff donations.
NewLaw sponsored the ‘Rookwood Rookies’ which included a team of six men and women who have all suffered spinal injuries to take part in the Inter Spinal Injury Unit Games at Stoke Mandeville.
Andy Skinner, a Paralympic athlete who had trialled for the sitting volleyball in the London 2012 Paralympics was sponsored by NewLaw.
Helen Molyneux
Helen Molyneux initially qualified as a journalist at Cardiff University and qualified as a solicitor in 1994. Helen Molyneux’s first job was working as a journalist for a small local firm and eventually worked for Eversheds before seeing a gap in the market to expand legal services in the UK and the start of NewLaw solicitors began.
Entrepreneur, Helen Molyneux has been a winner of several awards including The Law society’s Legal Business Woman of the Year in 2013.
In 2013 the founder of NewLaw Solicitors became the Chair of the Institute of Welsh Affairs and named as only the third person to hold the role in over 25 years.
Molyneux was recognised for her contribution to the law, and to the economy of Wales and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Laws by the University of South Wales.
