The New York State Technology Student Association (NYSTSA) is a state delegation of the national Technology Student Association and has approximately 200 middle and high school members throughout four regions of New York. NYSTSA is a Career and Technical Student Organization which promotes science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education through competitive events, community outreach efforts, and leadership development.

History
NYSTSA's roots can be traced to the 1950s, when a group of teachers became affiliated with the American Industrial Arts Association (AIAA), and later with the Technology Student Association's predecessor, the American Industrial Arts Student Association (AIASA). New York had its first TSA state conference in 1990, and since then has been an active and growing affiliate of the Technology Student Association.
Competition
All competitive events are separated into middle and high school levels, with students competing based on their school grade level (6-8 for middle school, 9-12 for high school). All NYSTSA affiliates compete at the state level, and those who qualify compete at the Technology Student Association National Conference. While most events are based on the research or application of STEM concepts, leadership is encompassed at both levels.
National standards of science, technology, engineering and math are observed at all NYSTSA and National TSA competitions. Members of NYSTSA have been awarded trophies, plaques and most recently, medals, based on their rankings at the state competition, and at the National level, students win pins and trophies for top 10 finishes in events. However, NYSTSA and its members realize that meeting like minded individuals and the stage on which to showcase ability in STEM fields are truly the highlight of any TSA conference.
Chapters
In the 2014-15 school year, 7 schools in New York State had TSA chapters. At the high school level, there were teams from Williamsville North High School, James A. Beneway High School, Christ the King Regional High School, Stuyvesant High School, Ithaca High School, and Harpursville Sr. High. At the middle school level, there were teams from DeWitt Middle School and Harpursville Jr. High.
The first and currently the only New York State TSA member to hold a National TSA Officer position was Ithaca High School's Rayleigh Lei in 2009. He held the office of Treasurer.
Structure and NYSTSA Constitution
As NYSTSA is among the smaller state delegations affiliated with TSA, no regions are observed with NYSTSA. The only level of competition which occurs under the jurisdiction of NYSTSA is its state competition, usually held in mid to late April. However, due to restrictions to how many members of each chapter can compete at the NYSTSA state conference, many larger chapters hold local competitions in which students compete for the qualification to compete at the state conference.
NYSTSA is governed by the NYSTSA Constitution and Bylaws which outlines the state's procedures and association.
State Conference
The NYSTSA State Conference is held annually in a State University of New York campus, usually in mid to late April. The conference includes competitions, tours of the host university, and an awards ceremony and banquet at the end of the event. Winners of events at the state level are awarded qualifications to compete at the national level.
State Officers
The NYSTSA State Officers are responsible for the administration of NYSTSA and its interests. There are 6 State Officer positions available, only four of which were filled during the 2015-16 NYSTSA electoral term. The officers are elected for one year terms, beginning at the NYSTSA State Conference and ending at the following conference. During their terms, state officers participate in the Parliamentary Session at the National Conference which takes place during their term. In addition, officers have various meetings throughout the year to finalize the state's committee agenda.
