Beginning

Mark Johnson moved from Los Angeles, California to New Jersey in 1999, at which time several paranormal experiences prompted him to start investigating his own home. Johnson captured several anomalies on film, which led him to contact a local paranormal research team to conduct a professional investigation. The research team successfully collected further photographic and video evidence at Johnson's residence. He was impressed with the team and their investigative techniques, and joined their team until they disbanded in 2004.

Formation of NJPR

After the old group disbanded, Johnson formed New Jersey Paranormal Research (NJPR). It was important to him to create a group whose mission would be to help average people who might be experiencing paranormal activity in their private homes or businesses, at no cost. He quickly assembled a team of professionals from various walks of life, including police officers, mechanical and electrical engineers, fire fighters, and health care professionals, each of whom brought their own unique backgrounds and talents to investigating claims of the paranormal.

Methods

After a preliminary interview and meeting with a client, NJPR performs an investigation typically lasting around four hours. The group takes a science-based approach to their investigations while utilizing a number of high-tech devices, including infrared high-definition video cameras, digital audio recorders, EMF (electromagnetic field) detectors, temperature gauges, full-spectrum digital cameras, and FLIR thermal video cameras.

During an average investigation, NJPR researchers attempt to capture evidence of paranormal activity on their equipment. The researchers also explore every possible explanation for alleged paranormal activity to rule out misinterpretation or false-positive results. In many cases the researchers conducting the investigation do not experience any paranormal activity, yet when the audio and video recordings are later analyzed it is often discovered that evidence was captured. Not until all of the evidence is analyzed does the team present its findings to the client. NJPR makes every effort to authenticate the evidence collected during investigations.

NJPR today

Today, New Jersey Paranormal Research is one of the largest paranormal research groups in the northeastern United States. With a roster of over 20 trained researchers, NJPR currently conducts investigations throughout New Jersey, New York, eastern Pennsylvania, and beyond. All investigations are 100% free of charge. The NJPR website is used to feature evidence the team has collected during their investigations, profile team members, and submit investigation requests.
