New Era Orchestra is a Ukrainian orchestra from Kyiv, Ukraine and one of the most exciting ensembles performing on Ukraine’s musical stage. It was founded in 2007 by its conductor and artistic director - Tetiana Kalinichenko. Among others, the orchestra has performed with such renowned soloists as Joshua Bell, Sarah Chang, Avi Avital and Danjulo Ishizaka.

History

Orchestra opened concert season in 2007 with the support of PR BLT Company "Vavilon,"» on the initiative of the co-founder of the Orchestra Andriy Rizol and art director Tetiana Kalinichenko. International tours of the orchestra began in 2010 with Kyiv - Paris - Moscow journey devoted to Andrei Tarkovsky, one of the greatest filmmakers of all time.

New Era Orchestra introduced such composers as John Adams, Philip Glass (USA), Michael Nyman,John Tavener (UK), Iannis Xenakis (France), Avner Dorman (Israel – USA), Takashi Yoshimatsu (Japan), Leonid Desyatnikov, Alexander Mosolov, Paul Karmanov (Russia), Solima Giovanni (Italy), Alexander Raskatov (Russia – Germany), Georgs Pelēcis, Artūrs Maskats (Latvia), Francois Couturier (France) to Ukrainian audience. Also, the orchestra presented a series of premieres of such outstanding contemporary composers as Joaquin Rodrigo (Spain), Yasushi Akutagawa (Japan), Krzysztof Penderecki (Poland), Arvo Pärt (Estonia), Giya Kancheli (Georgia), Peteris Vasks (Latvia), Vladimir Martynov (Russia) etc.

About the Conductor and Artistic Director

Tetiana Kalinichenko is a co-founder, an art director and conductor of New Era Orchestra. In 2003 she graduated from the Tchaikovsky National Academy of Music (class of opera and symphony conducting of Professor Vadym Gnedash). Was a guest conductor at the opera studio of the "Young Opera" at Kiev Conservatory, Dnipropetrovsk State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre (2004–2006). In 2004-2010 worked as a conductor of the National Presidential Orchestra of Ukraine. From 2007 works as an artistic director and chief conductor of New Era Orchestra., and also occupies the position of art-director of MK Classics project in the center of arts and education Master-Klass since 2009.

Collaborations with soloists

The orchestra has worked with many of the world’s renowned soloists including Joshua Bell (violin, USA), Sarah Chang (violin, USA), Avi Avital (mandolin, Israel – Germany), Danjulo Ishizaka (cello, Germany), Roman Mints (violin, Russia – Great Britain), Anja Lechner (cello, Germany), soloists of ‘Kremerata Baltica’ Andrei Pushkarev (vibraphone, Ukraine – Latvia) and Jana Ozolina (violin, Latvia), Dino Saluzzi (bandoneón, Argentina). The orchestra frequently performs with such leading Ukrainian soloists as Andrii Rakhmanin (violin, main concertmaster of the orchestra), Tetiiana Andriievska (violin, concertmaster of the orchestra), Kirill Sharapov (violin), Dmytro Marchenko (vibraphone), Roman Repka (piano), Artem Poludenny (cello), Olena Arbuzova (soprano), Solomiya Pryymak (soprano).

Activities

The orchestra is a frequent participant of the main contemporary music festivals in Ukraine and abroad such as GAIDA (Vilnius, Lithuania), Gogolfest, Art Arsenal, New Music Festival, Jazz in Kiev, DonKult etc. In the past seasons New Era Orchestra has undertaken tours to Europe (France, Lithuania). A special venture of the orchestra has been the project ‘Father and Son’ (Kiev – Paris, Salle Cortot – Moscow) dedicated to Arsenii and Andrey Tarkovsky, a duo of outstanding Russian poet and film director respectively.
