Neoscona is a genus of spider in the family Araneidae (araneids) with a mostly pantropical distribution. One species, N. adianta, has a palearctic distribution, and several species occur in North America.

There is a characteristic longitudinal groove on the carapace which separates all species of Neoscona from species of Araneus.

Taxonomy

Neoscona was first separated from other araneids in the now obsolete genus Epeira by Eugène Simon in 1864, initially only as a group rather than a genus. The name Neoscona was derived from νέω, spin, and σχοῐνος, reed or rush.
