Neena Gill CBE is a British Labour Party politician. She is a Member of the European Parliament for the West Midlands, having been first elected to serve from 1999 to 2009 and then re-elected in 2014.

Early life and education
Gill was born in the Punjab, in northern India, but emigrated to the UK with her family at a young age..
Gill graduated with a bachelor's degree in social studies from Liverpool John Moores University in 1979. During her time at university, Gill was Deputy President of the Students Union. She later gained a postgraduate professional qualification from the Chartered Institute of Housing in 1986 and in 1996, she completed the senior executive programme at the London Business School.
She is fluent in several Asian languages, Italian, and is currently studying French and German.
Career
Gill is a member of the European Parliamentary Labour Party (EPLP), part of the UK delegation to the S&D Group in the European Parliament (EP). She is particularly active on financial regulation and was the rapporteur for the 2015 European Money Market Funds (MMF) Regulation.
Early career
After graduation, Gill began training as an accountant, but left after being offered work at Ealing London Borough Council. Aged 29, Gill became the Chief Executive of ASRA Group, making her the first female, first non-white and youngest chief executive of a UK housing association. Between 1990 and 1999, she served as Chief Executive of Newlon Housing Group.
Politics
Prior to Labour's electoral success in 1997, Gill worked with members of Labour's shadow cabinet to help develop the party's social policy. In 1999, she was elected as the first female Asian MEP in the European Parliament. Representing the West Midlands between 1999 and 2009, Gill held various positions, including President of the Delegation for Relations with India and President of the Delegation for Relations with South Asia and SAARC countries. She was also a Member of The Legal Affairs Committee and of the Budgets Committee.
Out of parliament
Gill was unsuccessful in her bid to be re-elected for a third term as MEP in 2009. In 2010, Gill was appointed Vice President of Corporate Affairs for SAS Software, a position she held until June 2013.
Return to politics
In 2014, Gill was re-elected as MEP for the West Midlands. Gill currently holds several positions within the European Parliament: she is a Member of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs; a substitute member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs; Vice-Chair of the Delegation for relations with India; and a Member of Delegation for relations with the United States.[2] She is particularly active on financial regulation and was the rapporteur for the 2015 European Money Market Funds (MMF) Regulation. After lengthy negotiations, the new rules, which bring more oversight to areas of shadow banking, were passed in April 2017.
Awards
Gill was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2017 New Year Honours.
On 9 January 2017 Gill was awarded a Pravasi Bharatiya Samman award for contributions to public service.
