History

Nearpod was launched in the summer of 2012 out of Southern Florida. Following work producing educational apps and e-books, Argentinian co-founders, Guido Kovalskys, Felipe Sommer, and Emiliano Abramzon developed the Nearpod mobile learning platform for the education audience. Nearpod has reached over two million students per month as of June 2015. Nearpod is headquartered in Miami, Florida and has an additional office in San Francisco, California. Since its launch in 2012, the software has won numerous awards and accolades in the category of e-learning, that also include NSBA Technology Innovation Showcase 2013.

Features

Nearpod offers three primary features.

  • Nearpod offers a library of interactive lessons. The multimedia lessons align to Common Core State Standards and are authored by educators and various publishers.
  • Teachers can create Nearpod lessons on the Nearpod platform or by uploading previously created PowerPoint slides, Google Slides, or PDFs into the presentation.
  • Teachers can share lessons with student devices and guide the interaction and pace of the lesson by selecting shared slides.
