    PARAM Kanchenjunga supercomputer

512 Logical Cores + 240 Intel MIC HPC Cluster

India started a program to develop indigenous supercomputers and supercomputing technologies. For the purpose of achieving self-sufficiency in the field, the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) was set up at Pune in 1988.Param(which means SUPREME) is the series of supercomputers designed and assembled by the CENTRE FOR DEVELOPMENT OF ADVANCED COMPUTING(C-DAC) in Pune, India. The latest machine in the series is PARAM KANCHENJUNGA next to Param ISHAN and Param SHAVAK. PARAM KANCHENJUNGA was formally unveiled by the hon’ble Sikkim Governor Shrinivas Patil at NIT campus on 15 April 2016.It is one of the most advanced and fastest supercomputer among all the supercomputers in India with a speed of 15 TFLOPS. It is the only supercomputer unveiled among all the 31 NIT’s in India. The supercomputer, ‘PARAM Kanchenjunga’ is a collaboration between Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) Pune and the Ministry of Communications and IT. The supercomputer is equipped with the latest Intel-based processor and accelerator technologies which will give a major boost to research at all levels. The total cost to establish the supercomputer exceeds over ₹ 2 crores. Using the ‘PARAM Kanchenjunga’, two faculty members of National Institute Of Technology Sikkim(NIT) are already studying how to increase the efficiency of fuel movement through long oil pipelines such as from Middle East to India.
