Nathan M. Farrugia (born 28 June 1983) is an Australian technothriller author. His novels are known for their action, technology and heavy representation of female protagonists, receiving an “A” rating on the Bechdel test’s gender bias and diversity.

Biography

Farrugia was born in Melbourne, Australia. He served in the Australian Army in infantry and reconnaissance. Afterwards, he studied Film & Television at Melbourne Polytechnic and Professional Writing and Editing at RMIT University. Following his studies, Farrugia worked as a video editor.

Career

Farrugia has placed himself in dangerous situations in order to understand his characters, including climbing rooftops in Russia, exploring underground New York and escaping capture during a "Survive, Escape, Resistance and Evasion" exercise in Texas. As part of his research, he trained with USMC, SEAL team and Spetsnaz instructors, and learned tracking from Chiricahua Apache scouts and Aboriginal Australians. He also trains in Systema, a Russian martial art.

Farrugia’s The Fifth Column series comprises three novels and one short story. Farrugia's first novel, The Chimera Vector, was the first novel to be signed by Pan Macmillan’s digital imprint, Momentum.
