Early life and education

Soomro was raised in the Hingorja community of Khairpur. His father was Allah Bakhsh Soomro, a carpenter and well-known religious scholar.

Soomro received an intermediate in pre-engineering from the Government Degree College in Kandiaro Sindh. Afterwards, he did his Bachelor of Engineering (B.E) in Metallurgy from Mehran University of Engineering & Technology, Jamshoro Hyderabad, Sindh. He later worked as an engineer for Pakistan Steel Mills.

Soomro currently lives in Karachi. In recent years he has suffered from chronic heart disease.

Poetry

Soomro is known as a "renowned poet" of the Sindhi and Urdu languages and is the author of five books of verse. While Soomro's poetry is based on classical Sindh poetic themes of melody and vocalization, his work has also been described as rationalist, empiricist, and full of individualism. Soomro has described poetry as being "equipped with contradictions" and being about the "existence of ambiguity.

Soomro's poetry has selected for Revised Scheme of Syllabus of Sindhi for CSS Competitive Examination of Pakistan and he has also taken part in official mushaira honoring poets visiting Pakistan.

His poetry has been covered in volume 8 of Encyclopedia Sindhiana, compiled and published by Sindhi Language Authority, Hyderabad Pakistan. His poetry is also mentioned in Mukhtiar Mallah's book Sindhi Adab Jo Mukhtsar Jaezo, which lists Soomro as a modern poet of Sindhi language.

Soomro has said that fabricated legal charges have been filed against him because of his poetry, along with threats.

Shortly before the death of well-known Sindhi poet Tajal Bewas in 2008, Bewas read a paper about Soomro's poetry at the Pakistan Academy of Letters.
