Early life
Naren Weiss attended Madras Christian College and Brooklyn College, and was a video jockey on Channel UFX. He comes from an athletic background and often talks about acting like a sport.
Career
Naren Weiss began his career onstage in India and received visibility from the Indian media there, being referred to as "enchantingly scraggly and gloriously flamboyant" (The Hindu) and "annoying perfection" (The New Indian Express). He was in the Indian movies Good Night Good Morning and Vishwaroopam, and later had guest roles in the American television shows Elementary, Broad City, The Blacklist: Redemption and Law and Order: Special Victims Unit.
In 2012, he adapted musician Sidd Coutto's (of Zero) blog work as a play called The Horizon, which The New Indian Express called "a poetic account of the failing spirit of the Indie music industry." In 2013 he wrote Maya from Madurai, as well as Bollywood Kee-Maa for performances at the Metroplus Theatre Festival.
He has appeared in fashion campaigns for Bank of India, Sprite, and was on the cover of India Today alongside actress Pooja Devariya.
Weiss was one of the auditioners for the title role in Life of Pi and would go on to play a separate character named Pi in the film Love is a Broadway Hit directed by Peter Lee, long-time friend and associate of director Ang Lee. In an interview with the Deccan Chronicle, he called the entire experience "the uncanniest of coincidences."
Personal life
Weiss speaks multiple languages, and served as a translator on season 2 of Madam Secretary on CBS.
