About NUFS

NUFS is a four-year university which at the time of its founding in 1988 was the only foreign language studies university in the “Chubu" region that lies between the greater Tokyo region and the Kyoto-Osaka region. Currently NUFS contains two faculties consisting of nine departments and one graduate school. It has established relationships with 91 overseas educational institutions. NUFS maintains a “Total Expense Support System (TESS),” which means that the university bears the full financial burden of its overseas exchange programs. The number of its students sent abroad exceeds anything seen at any other university in its region. One special feature of the NUFS curriculum is the “Power-Up Tutorial”, a first-year class in which only three students study with one foreign teacher.

Educational Philosophy

The basic motto of NUFS is “Human Education and Practical Learning.” We strive to create the kind of learning that meets the real needs of contemporary society. As a foreign language university, our educational goal is to develop our students into people who will contribute richly to society and can be active in shaping the 21st century. In our teaching, we understand the need to treat each student as a unique individual, paying heed to the differences in each person’s areas of talent and ability. We also strive to create a nurturing environment for our students, creating bonds of trust and affection.
