Naga Self-Administered Zone

Naga Self-Administered Zone (Burmese: နာဂ ကိုယ်ပိုင်အုပ်ချုပ်ခွင့်ရ ဒေသ [nàɡa̰ kòbàɪɴ ʔoʊʔtɕʰoʊʔ kʰwɪ̰ɴja̰ dèθa̰]), as stipulated by the 2008 Constitution, is a self-administered zone consisting of 3 townships in Sagaing Region:

  • Lahe Township
  • Leshi Township
  • Nanyun Township
  • Those three districts were administratively part of Hkamti District. Its official name was announced by decree on 20 August 2010. The zone is to be self-administered by the Naga people. Its administrative seat is the town of Lahe.

In August 2016, an outbreak of measles caused the deaths of 44 children. The outbreak may have been caused by lack measles vaccination because of the poor health infrastructure. The Naga people are mainly Christian, having been proselytized in the 19th century.
