NGC 1399 is a large elliptical galaxy in the Southern constellation Fornax, the central galaxy in the Fornax cluster.

Characteristics
It is a type-cD galaxy, with a bright center and a vast, diffuse envelope surrounding it. It is also rich in globular clusters, with a population of them that has been estimated to be between 5,700 and 6,500.

A supermassive black hole with a mass of 500 million solar masses may be present in the center of this galaxy.
