N Mohamed Yahssir (born 4 November 1983) is a Singapore-born Director-Executive Producer predominantly working in the Indian media industry, based in Singapore.

Early Life and background

Yassir was born into an Indian-Muslim family. His father is a businessman and a first generation immigrant from Tamil Nadu, India. His mother is a Singapore-born Muslim homemaker of North Indian descent. Yassir is married to a medical social worker, Rashida Begum, and they have one son.

Education

Yahssir is an alumnus of the Temasek Polytechnic Design School, Singapore and graduated with a Diploma in Interactive Media Design in 2004.

Career

Yahssir started out as an intern with Mediacorp Channel Vasantham’s On-Air Promotions unit, cutting promotional trailers for the channel’s Indian Programming Content. He subsequently worked for several production houses in positions including grip, gaffer, camera assistant, cameraman, Director of Photography and Director.

He contributed to productions by Singapore-based production houses Megastar Productions, The Media Pte Ltd and Eagle Vision. Works include Singapore’s 1st Fully HD Tamil Telemovie ‘Madhi Mayangum’, info-educational series “Naam”, “Jannal” and “ICE”, drama series “Dheivadhaigal”, Thiru Valluvan Season 3” and “Veedhi Varai” and docu-drama series “Vizhigal” and “Oru Kaidhiyin Diary.”

Yahssir completed several short independent films. His first short film “Bommai” was selected for the 5th Young Guns Film Festival at The Substation. His subsequent shorts have showcased at local festivals including "Hifzah" which won 3rd Prize at the Singapore Short Film Festival in 2007 and “7 Storey” which won 1st Prize at the 8 Minutes Short Film Festival in 2008. To date, Yahssir has also directed short films such as “CheckMate” which had won accolades and awards in short-film competitions.

YahssirHe won a competition in Mediacorp’s Channel okTo - Pitching and Directing with Ashok Amritraj(or Project PDA), a reality competition for filmmakers. His short film, “CanHope” claimed the first prize in the 2010 OKTO’s Project PDA, earning him a 3-month stint with Hollywood Executive Producer Mr. Ashok Amritraj of Hyde Park Entertainment. He was later invited to front the first Vasantham Short Film Competition organized by Mediacorp Pte Ltd.

Yahssir’s short-film, “Lost in Paradise”, was shot in Los Angeles and edited by him in association with Sonic Magic Studios, a Hollywood post-production facility.

Yahssir is the Founder/Director/Executive Producer of Millenia Motion Pictures, a media production house in Singapore which creates television programming content, television and radio commercials, independent films, short films and similar media works.
