N. Kuttikrishna Pillai, better known as N. K. Desam (Malayalam: എൻ. കെ. ദേശം; born October 31, 1936), is a Malayalam-language poet and literary critic from the south Indian state of Kerala. His poetry collection Mudra won the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award in 2009.

Biography

He was born in 1936 in Desom village near Alwaye as the son of Padinjarevalappil P. K. Narayana Pillai and Poovathumpadavil Kunjukutty Pillai. First poem written at the age of 12. He has started translation of Gitanjali , famous work of Rabindranath Tagore in 1957. After graduating in Malayalam literature, he obtained a job in the Life Insurance Corporation of India in 1960 , and retired in Oct 1997. His major literary influences are classicism of sanskrit, romantic movement in Malayalam etc. His main field of activity is aksharasloka, a traditional classical literary pastime. It is a recital performance of slokas in sanskrit meters by a team , sitting in a row or semi circle. He is the founder chairman of Venmani Trust and V.T Memorial Trust, and Secretary of Harishree Aksharasloka Samithi. His address is Haritham, Desom, Aluva...(0484-2606288)
