Muthyala Subbaiah is a Telugu film director. He has directed 51 films. Known for his movies with heavy dose of human emotions, he is sometimes referred as Sentiment Subbaiah. He was active in the 1990s. He is currently leading a retired life.

Personal life

Muthyala Subbaiah was born in Parlapalli, a village in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh. His parents are Sankaraiah, Seshamma. He is the eldest of four children. He has two sisters and a brother. He was named after his grand father Subbaiah. Their family lived on agriculture. He used to participate in stage shows since the age of 13 years. He completed his B.Com from Vidavalur. He served as the secretary of Fine Arts Association in his college.

He was married to Parvathi when he was an assistant director. They have three children, two sons and a daughter. None of them entered film industry.

Career

After finishing his graduation, he moved to Chennai with an interest to join Film industry. He joined as an assistant to Manapuram Apparao. Later assisted A. Sanjeevi for Sisindri Chittibabu film. It was his first film as an assistant director. Then he worked with P. C. Reddy as a co-director for 10 films. He got introduced to T. Krishna with the help of P.C Reddy, he co-directed many films with him. He got opportunities as a director later on.

Moodu Mulla Bandham was his his first film as a director. This film was not a commercial success. He had to wait for 6 years for his next film. He had to work as a co-director again to look after his family. His association with T. Krishna as a co-director started with the film Neti Bharatam. It continued for 10 films until T. Krishna died because of cancer. He also played a role in the film Vandematharam.

When he was working with T. Krishna he was approached by some producers with a novel Vennela Metlu written by Mynampati Bhaskar. They asked him to make a film based on this novel. He directed the film Aruna Kiranam starring Rajasekhar and Vijayashanti. This film was a big hit at the box office. Later he went on to do films with actors like Chiranjeevi, Balakrishna, Venkatesh, Rajasekhar, Rajendra Prasad. He also launched Gopichand son of T. Krishna as a lead actor with the film Tholi Valapu.
