Mutant Calculator is a German music video/short film directed by Alexander Tuschinski, who also wrote and performed the song. It was screened and received awards at various international film-festivals, and was officially released online in March 2011.
In the film, a student learns for a maths-related exam, when suddenly his pocket calculator disappears and re-appears behind him at the size of a human. They start fighting, interrupted by remembering how good friends they once were. Ultimately, the calculator runs off into a snowy landscape, being chased by the student, scaring a group of students along the way.
Production
Alexander Tuschinski wrote and produced Mutant Calculator in order to relax with a small, funny project after directing the feature-film Menschenliebe. There are three versions of the video:
The regular version, running 4:48 minutes, which shortens the song slightly compared to the song released on iTunes. This is the most widely seen version of the video.
The Directors Cut, running 7:23 minutes. This version uses the whole, unabridged song "Mutant Calculator".
The Extended Cut, running 9 minutes. This version is only meant for reference to show more footage filmed on set, and repeats sections of the song. The director explicitly states that this version is not meant as an "official" version, but merely as a supplement for people interested to see more footage.
