Mustapha Ourrad (21 June 1954 – 7 January 2015) was an Algerian-French copyeditor for the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo. He was one of the victims of the Charlie Hebdo shooting on 7 January 2015 in which terrorists killed twelve.

Life and career

Mustapha Ourrad was born in the village of Aït Larbâa (now Beni Yenni) on 21 June 1954. He lost both his parents when he was young: his mother when he was two, and his father when he was seven. Thereafter, he was raised by two of his uncles. After high school, he began to study medicine, but abandoned it. He was drawn to cultural subjects such as art, literature, and philosophy. In particular he was interested in the philosophies of Nietzsche and the novel Proud Beggars by Albert Cossery.
