Murphy Martines (born April 26, 1978) is a men's fashion designer based out of Los Angeles. He has been designing apparel, accessories and graphics for more than a decade in the street and action sports industry.

After moving his way up from intern to creative director at Perry Ellis action sports division, he created his own label called COPY in 2006. Martines handled all aspects of the business.

Early career and education

Murphy Martines was born in Phoenix, Arizona and lived there till he left in 1996 for San Francisco to pursue his studies. He attended California College of Arts and Crafts from 1996-1998. Immediately after, Martines moved to downtown Los Angeles interned with Henry Rojas in 1999. From there, Murphy moved to downtown Los Angeles and landed a job working for a men's line called Prototype as a fabric cutter. And in 2000 Murphy moved to New York City to work for GAP Jeans as a head designer. In 2001 following 9/11, Murphy moved back to the West Coast to work as a designer for Perry Ellis and moved through the ranks to become the Creative Director for their action sports brand. In 2005, Martines designed the Men's Line for Juicy Couture. In 2007, Martines was named Director of Merchandising and Design for Rusty Apparel. During all of Martines' professional endeavors in his early career he had been working on a side project that he had started in college. The project was a men's label called COPY.

Copy is a global fashion brand with the roots in the creative culture of art, design fashion and music. Offering a style that is progressive yet wearable. Established in 2006 by designer, Murphy Martines, COPY is a contemporary men’s sportswear collection that adds style and distinction to comfortable clothing. COPY is a full cut and sew collection with an extensive accessory and footwear collection. The key to the collection is mixing different silhouettes and blending fabrics to create new styles and nontraditional designs. In 2010, Martines joined forces with Four Star Distribution, owners of the well-known footwear and apparel skate brand, CIRCA, to develop and grow the men’s contemporary collection, COPY. The finalized joint venture will continue to build upon the company’s present success.

Currently, Martines is working on a collection with the dubstep king Rusko which is launching for the fall 12 collection. He is working on the brand bible for the Fall 12 collection and starting Spring 13 design.

Personal life

Murphy Martines currently resides in Los Angeles with his wife Carrie Martines, the creative director at Volcom, and a French Pit Bull named Stella. Murphy married Carrie Browder October 13, 2007. Throughout his career Murphy has traveled to more than 20 countries and has lived in San Francisco, New York and now resides in Los Angeles.
