Munit Mesfin is a singer and songwriter born in Ethiopia and raised around the world. She sings songs in Amharic, English and sometimes with no words at all.

Early life

Munit has lived all over the world — India, Namibia, and the United States, always singing in choirs. She lived in the Washington, D.C. area for a while, singing as a background vocalist for Ethiopian singer Wayna, among others.

Education

Munit studied Economics at Smith College, a private women’s liberal arts University in Northampton, Massachusetts, before embarking on her musical career.

Music Life

After leaving the country at early age Munit returned from United States to Ethiopia on 2007 which was also Ethiopian Millennium celebration.

After her return to Ethiopia for good in 2007, she has followed her musical career as a singer / songwriter. Munit and Jӧrg Pfeil (who is from Germany) have been creating a blend of Ethiopian Acoustic Soul music with voice and guitar. Thus far, they have released two albums and have been touring in Ethiopia, the US and Europe.[1]

Albums

Thus far, Munit along with Jӧrg has released two albums. The first one is entitled "…just the two of us: live at the coffee house…", which was recorded in 2007 and released in 2008. The second album, entitled "፪ ። 2", was released in March 2013. The title represents the fact that it is the two of them that were the executive producers and artistic directors this project. It is also their second album; bringing two nations together to create their music.
