Muneer Ahmed AKA "Manik" (Sindhi: منير احمد ماڻڪ‎) was born on 5 March 1943 at Naushahro Feroze. He was a liberal story writer and novelist of Sindhi language. He committed suicide in Nawabshah on 26 January 1982.

Education

He studied up to secondary at Nawabshah. Then he qualified Master of Arts, BEd, MEd and LLB.

Professional career

Manik had served many jobs like teacher, social welfare officer, lawyer, medical store keeper and also worked in Russian Embassy. By nature, he was like an alien soul.

Literary career

His literary career started with attending Sindhi Adabi Sangat meeting in Nawabshah. His pen name was "Muneer Sindhi". Which he changed after some as "Manik". He wrote over one hundred stories, some novels, novelettes and dramas etc. Some of the time he remained in journalism but became famous as a story writer. His stories and novels are clear picture of society therefore he faced the opposition and abuses from a group of a public but he continued writing with a resoluteness and truth. He unveiled social evils specially helplessness of woman.

Controversial writings

With the publication of his history “Havelli ja Raaz” (Sindhi: حويليءَ جا راز‎), a particular class of society showed aggression and anger against him whereas poor, victim and literary class of people admired him a lot. This story tells about a man made norm in which a daughter is married to Quran therefore she cannot marry or even think of it till death. In this situation a woman either becomes psychological patient to find any other way for herself.

Some of famous books of Muneer Ahmed Manik are: Havelli ja Raaz (long story) (Sindhi: حويليءَ جا راز‎), Lurhandar nasal (novelette, 1972) (Sindhi: لڙهندڙ نسل‎), Patal me Bhaghawat (story 1977) (Sindhi: پاتال ۾ بغاوت‎), And unjj aen Parada, Kalachije Kun me (Drama) Zindagi hik Kun (Drama and Mai Bakhtawar (stage drama).

Suicide

Manik committed suicide in Nawabshah on 26 January 1982.
