The 12009/12010 Mumbai Central–Ahmedabad Shatabdi Express is a super fast express train of Shatabdi class belonging to Indian Railways that runs between Mumbai Central and Ahmedabad Junction in India. It is a 6 days a week service. Earlier it would operate excluding Fridays, later it was changed to exclude Sundays.

It operates as train number 12009 from Mumbai Central to Ahmedabad Junction and as train number 12010 in the reverse direction.

Coaches

The Mumbai Central – Ahmedabad Shatabdi Express generally has 2 AC Executive Class coach, 15 AC Chair Car coaches, two luggage cum generator coaches. The train runs with the Linke-Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches. The number of coaches is added / removed as per the demand on the train. Catering is arranged on board the train.

Service

It is second fastest train on the Mumbai – Ahmedabad Sector after the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Duronto Express which is fastest train in BCT-ADI sector.It used to run six days a week excluding Fridays after the exclusion day became Sunday.

It covers the distance of 493 kilometres in 6 hours 20 mins as 12009 Shatabdi Express (87 km/hr) & 6 hours 40 mins as 12010 Shatabdi Express (81 km/hr).

Kalyan based WCAM 2/2P locos are used to haul the train between Mumbai Central & Ahmedabad Junction until at least March 2012 although Western Railways completed DC Electric Conversion to AC on 5 February 2012.

It is now regularly hauled by a Vadodara based WAP 5 or WAP 7 locomotive.
