Russia putin casts early vote ahead of moscow city duma elections


The Moscow City Duma (Russian: Московская городская дума, Moskovskaya Gorodskaya Duma) is the Russian regional parliament in Moscow, the unicameral City Duma (city council, a local parliament) of the Russian capital city of Moscow. As Moscow is one of three federal cities, the city duma's legislation can only be overridden by the mayor and the federal government.

Composition

It includes 35 members who are elected for a four-year term in a Mixed-member proportional representation: 18 are elected on a proportional party list basis and 17 on Single-mandate constituency basis.

From 1993 to 2001 was elected by single-member districts. From 2005 to 2009, 20 deputies were elected on party lists, and 15 - in single-seat constituencies. Since 2009 18 deputies are elected on party lists, and 17 - in single-seat constituencies.

The current Chairman of the Moscow City Duma is Alexey Valerievich Shaposhnikov. The last election, held in 2014.
