Moropeche is a village in the province of Albacete, Castile-La Mancha, Spain.

History

Although there is no record of the first civilizations that populated the westernmost part of the Sierra Albacete where Moropeche is located, archaeological remains have been found that place it in the time of the Upper Paleolithic. Something not uncommon due to the abundant caves and caves that are in the area and that its first settlers used as natural refuge to guard against the many dangers that lurked them.

The Roman [Roman Hispania] occupation also reached these lands where different ceramic remains and coins of that time have been found. Undoubtedly one of the most profitable times for Moropeche was the Moslem period. From the year 800 and until the year 1243 that was reconquered by the Christians.

Demography

In 2015 it had a population of 205 inhabitants according to the official data of the National Institute of Statistics (INE), although it is certain that during the weekends or the summer months the population doubles .

To this day Moropeche is a hamlet with the same problems as most of the mountain villages of Albacete, the aging of the population and the lack of work so that the young people have a future for them and their children, although of a time To this part have emerged some construction companies and are getting the youth do not have to emigrate and stay in Moropeche and can raise their children there.

Rural tourism

For a few years now, rural tourism has been discovered, and Moropeche is included within the limits of the new Natural Park, created with Law 3/2005, declaration of the Natural Park of the Calares del Río Mundo and the Sima open new doors and new horizons for its people.
