Mongol National Organisation

Mongol National Organisation is a political party in Nepal. Unlike most other janajati movements, MNO emphazises racial identity rather than ethnicity. The party claims to work for the interests of the 'Mongol' racial groups in Nepal, and that the Mongols are oppressed by 'Aryans' in Nepal. MNO rejects the term 'janajati'.

Nevertheless, there seems to be more genetic diversity among Mongoloid peoples in Nepal than assumed by Western scholars, while the great majority are of Tibeto-Burman origins, there are claims by the Rai people through their oral history, or rather most of the Rai (except Bantawa Rai) reject the Mongol/Tibetan origin and may be in fact be related to Austronesians or Austroasiatic people. If this is correct, its a mystery how they originally migrated there centuries ago from far off lands. Other minor groups like lowland Munda people are in fact confirmed as Austroasiatic, but their numbers in Nepal are very tiny.

The party was denied registration in 1990, but was registered with the Election Commission of Nepal ahead of the 2008 Constituent Assembly election. Albeit unregistered, the party launched independent candidates in the 1991, 1994 and 1999 parliamentary elections in Ilam and Jhapa Districts. None were elected. In the 2008 CA polls, he party got 11,578 votes (0.11%) in the proportional representation vote.

Whilst unsuccessful in national elections, the party has now village level seats in Ilam District.
