Monción is one of the three municipality (municipio) of the Santiago Rodríguez province in the Dominican Republic. The Monción Dam is located just east of the town.

Etymology
Founded as Guaraganó, in 1884 it was elevated to the category of canton; in 1898 President Lilís Heureaux renamed the settlement in honor of General Benito Monción (La Vega, 29 March 1826–Guayubín, 11 February 1898), a recently deceased army officer of French descent who fought in the Dominican Restoration War.

Monción has a tropical savanna climate (Köppen climate classification: Aw) with a dry season on winter and an pronounced wet season on summer.
