2002–09: Early career and So You Think You Can Dance

Mollee Gray studied at The Dance Club in Orem, Utah as a child. Gray's film debut was as a dancer and supporting actress in the 2002 dance movie, Out of Step.
In 2005, she auditioned, against her teachers' advice who claimed she was too young, for the Disney Channel Original Movie, High School Musical at age 14 and ended up being a featured dancer. She then auditioned for High School Musical 2 and became a principal dancer. She was also featured as a principal dancer in the 2008 MTV movie The American Mall, starring The Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrev. She is mostly featured in the number "Survivor".

In 2008, she was cast as a principal dancer in the third and final High School Musical film, High School Musical 3: Senior Year, where she can be seen in most scenes throughout the movie, as an extra or a dancer. She started training with dance teacher/choreographer TOKYO and later on became his assistant.
In 2009, Gray auditioned in Los Angeles for So You Think You Can Dance (SYTYCD) Season 6 at 18. Despite the Judges' doubts about her being too young and immature, she made Top 20 on her first try. She was paired with Nathan Trasoras and made her way to the Semi-finals. She was voted off on December 9, 2009. The day after the elimination she was featured on The Ellen DeGeneres Show where she performed with fellow SYTYCD dancer Legacy.

Gray was a dancer in the 2012 American Music Awards in the number for "I Knew You Were Trouble" by Taylor Swift.
