Mizanur Rahman (Bengali: মিজানুর রহমান; born 22 June 1983), better known by his stage name Mizan the Poet, is an English spoken word poet, activist and community worker.

Early life

Rahman was born and brought up in London, England, and is of Bangladeshi descent. He attended Weald College in Harrow Weald before graduating in BSc Computer Science in the University of Westminster.

Career

Rahman pursued a career in the community sector as an activist and a community worker. He volunteered with charities in the UK such as Stop the War Coalition and Muslim Youth Helpline, as well as working for the Islamic Human Rights Commission, all dealing with extremism, youth work and political campaigning.

Rahman's poetry contains aspects of social, religious and political commentary inspired by real life experiences. In his poems, he speaks from the victim's or perpetrator's point of view or about his own inspirational experiences. His inspirations also include the 13th century Persian poet, Jalal al-Din Rumi.

He has performed in events with Lyrically Challenged, Dark Sea Scrolls, and Lost 4 Words. He was featured on London Hott Radio Café. His poems are also featured on YouTube. He has even worked with Director Troy Kamal (Ego Free Music) for the Streethands organisation, a charity for children. He regularly performs at "Hope 'n' Mic" nights in London.
