The Mittersill mine is a large mine located in Mittersill, in the Western part of Austria in Salzburg, 30 km South of Kitzbühel and 339 km South - West of the capital, Vienna. Mittersill represents the largest tungsten reserves in Austria having estimated reserves of 6.1 million tonnes of ore grading 0.5% pure tungsten. The mine produces around 1,200 tonnes of tungsten/year.

History

Exploration started in 1967. Production started as an open pit mine (eastern field) in 1976. Since 1986 only underground mining in the westfield is performed.
