History

Mitake-juku was originally established as a temple town, located around Gankō-ji Temple (願興寺). However, when the Nakasendō was established in the Edo period, it became one of the original Nakasendō post towns. Travelers often came straight to Mitake-juku to avoid the difficult paths near Hosokute-juku.
