Mission Student – Who wants to study in Ukraine? – educational and entertaining TV programmes in the form of a quiz, designed for students of 10-11 grades from Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan for the Ministry of Education and Science, Youth and Sport in Ukraine. The main prize of the show is a grant for a higher education in Ukraine.

Contents

The filming of the quiz took place in Ukraine, the shows are broadcast on central and local TV channels of Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Georgia.

Format

The form of the show was designed and developed by Ukrainian company Euromedia together with channels АТВ in Azerbaijan as well as “Habar” and “Bilim” in Kazakhstan.

The TV show is supported by the Ministry of Education and Science, Youth and Sport in Ukraine, the Ministry of Youth and Sport in Azerbaijani Republic and Azerbaijan Youth Foundation under the Ministry of Youth and Sport in Azerbaijan as well as in Kazakhstan under the Republican Public Association «Unified children and youth organization “Жас Ұлан”.

The idea of the show appeared as a source of popularization of education in Ukraine and was designed as a unique form to combine intellectual game and entertaining show.

The form of educational and entertaining show «Mission Student» differs by the ability not only to watch an intellectual game in the studio but to follow the participants’ adventures during the entire TV project: traveling, tours, visiting of five universities in different Ukrainian cities, meeting with Azerbaijani and Kazakhstani students, universities administrations as well as Ukrainian and foreign show business stars.

The filming of the show took place in five universities of Ukraine the participants visited in the first season of the project, among them: Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, National Aviation University, Kharkiv National Karazin University, Odessa National Polytechnic University, Poltava National Technical Yuriy Kondratyuk University. The filming within the studio took place in one of Kiev TV pavilions.

Participants selection

The smartest and the most quick-witted children from Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan were selected to participate in the project «Mission Student». During the auditions pupils of 10-11 grades fulfilled tests and personal interviews and as a result the best ones were selected to take part in the TV show.

Pupils of 10-11 grades from Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan take part in the quiz «Mission Student». The participants’ age: 16–17 years.

Rules

The quiz involves 6 programs: 5 qualifying rounds and the final. 8 persons participate in each qualifying round. The overall number of participants is 40 persons from each country.

Each program of the quiz consists of 4 levels:

  • Level 1 “Reconnaissance”: the participants get 12 questions with 4 written answer variants where only one is correct.
  • Level 2 “Special theme”: the participants get 12 questions with 4 visual answer variants (a picture or photo), only one is correct.
  • Level 3 “Unclassified materials”: 4 questions are given to the participans; the questions are determined by one of the universities the participants have visited. A video-question consists of a question with 4 hints which insinuate the correct answer and a video-answer itself.
  • Level 4 “Duel”: the participants orally answer 12 questions without any hints and variants. During given time the one who presses the button first can answer the question. The participant with maximum score within 4 levels gets into the final.
  • After levels 1-3 two participants with the minimum score leave the game. If the number of points is equal, a special level “Control question” or an extra measurement such as “average answer speed” can be applied. As a result 6 persons participate in level 2, 4 persons – in level 3 and 2 persons – in level 4. The one left with maximum score is the winner.

As a result of qualifying rounds 8 persons get into the final – 5 winners of qualifying programs plus 3 participants with maximum score level within qualifying program. If it is not possible to select a winner at once, one more criteria “average answer speed” is applied. The conditions of the final are equal to qualifying rounds; the only exceptions are: in the third level 5 video-questions are given – 1 question from each university cooperating with the project. A result of level 4 “Duel” the winner who gets a grant for a higher education in Ukraine is selected.
